We are a third-generation dairy farm founded in 1955 by our grandparents, who came to Canada from the Netherlands. They brought principles of hard work, integrity, and respect for the animals they cared for and the land they farmed. These principles are at the heart of what we do today so that you can enjoy fresh local Grass-Fed milk and Butter, knowing that it comes from a family that cares about the food being produced for you.

As many of you know in visiting our website or social media platforms, we are a family farm, passionate about what we do. The farm was founded in 1955 and until 2013 we were unable to link what we did on our farm to a product on the shelf. That changed in 2013, we decided that we wanted to put our name on some products so that we could link our story and what we do, to a product consumers could get behind.

Urban consumers today are very disconnected from a farm. The millennial, most urban baby boomers, and especially Gen Xers have never been on a farm or met a farmer. That disconnect has created a multitude of misconceptions about what happens on a farm, the priorities of a farmer, and the positive changes modernization has had. These misconceptions are not merely the fault of the consumer but more to the failure of farmers. We have not told a good story and let the loud voices of the activistic groups fill the minds of consumers with false information or finding the worst of our industry and painting the entire industry with that brush.

The Donia Farms brand was started as a platform to educate and inform consumers what happens on a farm. To reconnect the consumer with the farm again. We decided to be open with what happens on a modern commercial dairy farm, tell our story about what we do, even though we aren’t much different than any other modern dairy. We hope that these articles will be an engaging way to share what, indeed happens on a farm, what we prioritize, and why we do the things we do. We will open up a comment section to engage in constructive dialogue with those that are eager to constructively rebut our views and methods of farming. Grass Fed Products

Donia Farms is about harbouring an environment that promotes health, comfort, and happiness. These are essential ingredients to ensuring our cows produce wholesome milk for you to enjoy.

Throughout the year our cows have access to outside, in the summer they can freely choose between the pasture and the comfy beds inside our spacious barn. During the winter they have access to our outside patios at the back of our barns to enjoy the good weather days.

The cow's health and well being is the heart and soul of our family's farm; it is essential to us that do what is best for them, every day we offer them the best diet we can. The diet for our grass-fed cows is made up of 80% dry hay; the other 20% is energy and supplements to ensure they are getting all their requirements. With that diet, we can promote good health for your cows and give you the best in grass-fed.

What We Do

We are dairy farmers who care for our animals and the land we farm. Our job is our lifestyle—we both work and play on the farm. We never have a day-off because the cows always have to eat, but we wouldn’t trade it for the world! We’re happy to do the work knowing the end result is quality, farm-fresh food.

Donia’s Philosophy

From the day “Pake” (Grandpa) started the farm, attention to detail has been high on our priority list. Whether we’re painting fences, feeding animals, or planting crops, we take great care to make sure everything is done right. We’re local, sustainable and committed to quality and trust on the farm and in the community.

It is passion and dedication that are at the heart of our philosophy. With passion, we strive to ensure that the animals we care for daily are happy and healthy by developing an environment around them that promotes comfort.

This is also our philosophy towards the land that we farm. We have a deep appetite to ensure that we can farm our land for another 100 years, choosing wise, sustainable practices. Nourishing our farmland with organics first, being considerate of the environment around us.

With a sense of pride, we work hard to ensure that the farm stays neat and tidy. We do this by cleaning the outside of the barn often and washing the machinery regularly. To us, it is important that we create a clean environment so that the food we produce has a clean start. We are a part of a beautiful community, and we want to reflect that beauty with a clean farm.

All of what we do surrounding the farm is done to help the cow. To us, she is the most important asset on the farm. Her health and well-being are what we work to keep, and that takes passion and dedication to ensure.

Family First

Donia Farms has been continuously family run since 1955. Now transitioning to the third generation, the brothers have knowledge learned from their father, uncle, Pake (grandpa) and… maybe a little from university to continue the family business.

Family comes first at Donia Farms. Pake (Grandpa) started the farm in 1955 after he and Beppe (Grandma) immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands. They wanted a better life for their family. When Pake retired to take up his love of Friesian Horses, his sons took over the dairy.

Donia Farms is now transitioning into the third generation of the family, with the 3 brothers running all aspects of the farm. The brothers have big boots to fill and have set out to do all their Grandpa and Dad have done and more.
